Police probe alleged drive-by shooting after men woken by gunshots into eastern Melbourne home

Police are investigating an early morning alleged drive-by shooting, after two bullets were allegedly fired into a quiet suburban home in Melbourne’s east.

Police are appealing public assistance information after two people were woken by the sound of “gunshots” directed at their eastern Melbourne house.

Manningham Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Rohan Courtis said officers were called to Diane Crescent, Doncaster East.

Police allege to men in their 40s were asleep at 5am when two gunshots were fired into the front of their home.

“We know that there was a shotgun used to fire two shots into the front of the premises,” he said.

“The front door and the front of the premises has been shot at.

“There were two cartridges left on the footpath directly outside the premises.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV from Diane Crescent and Maggs St in Doncaster East to contact Crimestoppers.

“Witnesses have said a male voice was heard and we’re seeking assistance to identify the vehicle that has left the scene,” Detective senior sergeant Courtis said.

“We know that the people responsible arrived in a vehicle and then left shortly thereafter.”

Detective senior sergeant Courtis said the two men inside the home were uninjured and were helping police with their inquiries.

“There’s no injuries to the occupants at this stage but obviously very disturbing for the occupants and the residents from the surrounding areas here,” he said.

“There’s damage to the inside of the premises.

“At this stage we’re following up inquiries as to whether there’s any connections to the premises or whether it’s a random attack.”
