Man freed after being trapped under boulder south of Wollongong

A man has been rushed to hospital after he spent several hours trapped under boulder.

A man has been freed after his leg was trapped under a boulder during a canoeing trip south of Wollongong.

NSW Fire and Rescue Albion Park crew were called to Clover Hill Rd on Macquarie Pass to assist NSW Ambulance.

Posting on social media, the rescuers were called about midday on Friday to assist with the retrieval of an injured man after he fell down a gorge on one of the waterfall trails.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told NCA NewsWire the 21-year-old man has been freed and flown to St George Hospital hospital for treatment for serious leg injuries.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District, along with Police Rescue, SES, NSW Fire and Rescue, and NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The ABC reports the man was on a canyoning trip through the Macquarie Rivulet when the accident occurred

It’s believed the man’s hip has become pinned by a boulder that is thought to weigh between 3 and 5 tonnes.

Crews had to walk 15 kilometres to locate him and spent some time determining how to safely lift the boulder to free him.
