Man accused of posing as yoga teacher before sexually assaulting two women

A man is facing allegations he posed as a yoga teacher before entering a business in Queensland and sexually assaulting two women inside.

A Queensland man is accused of posing as a yoga teacher before allegedly sexually assaulting two women along the northern beaches of Mackay.

Police will allege the 28-year-old man visited a business in Mackay on April 21 and pretended to be a yoga instructor before he sexually assaulted two women in their 20s.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said police had information that a man claiming to be a yoga instructor had approached other women at parks and beaches in the past five months. However, he said police couldn’t confirm that this was the same man.

“We’ve been told that a person has approached women stating that he was a yoga instructor or could show people some movements and in the course of that they’ve been sexually assaulted and inappropriately touched.” he said.

“The information that we have is that the offences have been committed [in the past five months] during daylight hours – but any assault on a person, particularly sexual assault of women in public places, is a matter of concern for us.”

Sergeant Eaton said a man was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault on May 19.

Authorities believe there may be other alleged victims and are appealing for people to come forward to police.

The man will appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court on June 26.
