Horrific details have emerged about the deaths of a mother and her son as the man charged with murder appears in court.
The bodies of Jifeng “Eileen” Liu, 47, and her son Sam, 20, were found dead on the top of a staircase in a south Brisbane home on Monday.
Weifeng Huang appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court via telephone from his hospital bedside on Tuesday. He did not apply for bail. The case has been adjourned until September 19.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said Mr Huang and Ms Lui had been in a relationship “for some months” and resided at the property together.
Superintendent Massingham said police had seized two alleged weapons – a kitchen knife and a meat cleaver.
Police allege the pair died in a two-storey home in Stretton in the early hours of Monday morning, with large amounts of blood discovered on the stairwell.
“The scene was confronting, it has been described as a frenzied attack on the two deceased persons,” Superintendent Massingham said.
Police allege Mr Huange fled the scene in a silver SUV after the alleged murders and attempted to change his clothes.
Police also allege Mr Wuang left the property in the vehicle at 4.22am before returning to the scene at 4.53am.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Superintendent Massingham said Mr Huang had been charged with two counts of murder.
He was taken to hospital under police guard on Monday and later underwent surgery for serious lacerations to his arms and legs.
Police are calling for anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage that captures the movements of the SUV in this time period, or any suspicious behaviour in the area, to come forward to authorities.
