A four year old girl has died after being hit by a car in Melbourne’s west overnight.

A four year old girl has tragically died after being hit by a car in Melbourne’s west on Sunday night.

The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Derrimut and Heaths Rd in Hoppers Crossing around 9.15pm, police confirmed.

The child was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries but she later died.

Police said they were speaking with a 20-year-old man from Werribee in southwestern Melbourne about the deadly incident.

The young man stopped at the scene and is continuing to assist police with their inquiries.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision.
