A frantic overnight search for a man who was last seen walking into the water fully clothed at Surfers Paradise Beach on Friday night has ended in a false alarm.

Queensland Police responded to reports about 9pm of the unknown man walking into the water, with police calling in officers, the Polair helicopter and Water Police to help with the search.

But they could not locate anyone until early on Saturday morning.

Queensland police located this man early on Saturday morning after he was reported missing.

Police initially feared for the man’s safety, but NCA NewsWire understands the man had simply gone for a swim in his clothes, and the person who reported him to officers had failed to notice him emerge from the water.

A spokesman for Queensland Police said officers found the man “safe and well” along the Surfers Paradise Beach shoreline.

Police are no longer investigating the incident.
