Man arrested after missing mother called triple-0 minutes before home invasion

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man after his mother vanished from her Gold Coast home just minutes after calling police about a break in.

A man has been arrested his mother’s disappeared from her home after she called police about a violent home invasion.

Queensland Police say the 30-year-old was arrested without incident shortly before 5pm on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to Wendy Sleeman’s Gold Coast home at 3.30pm on Tuesday, after she reported a potential home invasion.

She had called police after noticing signs of forced entry, saying to police on the phone: “It doesn’t look like there’s anyone here”.

But 30 minutes later when police arrived on the scene, the 61-year-old was nowhere to be found.

Her disappearance is being treated as high-risk.

“We have grave concerns for her safety,” Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith told reporters on Wednesday.

“There are clear signs of violence and obviously evidence of a fire.”

A Queensland Police spokeswoman told NCA NewsWire police divers are searching the lake behind Ms Sleeman’s home, and are expected to stay there till nightfall.

Divers have reportedly found items in the water, including knives, which will be examined by the police forensic unit.

Police were seen searching the park neighbouring the house on Ironbark St, Elanora for evidence on Wednesday.

Officers were looking for her 30-year-old son Jamie - who has since changed his name to Slade Murdok - as they believe he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
