Paris attacks day four: Islamic State threatens to strike America

We're going to finish our live blog now, but here's a wrap of the latest developments following the Paris attacks.

• The death toll from Friday night's attacks stands at 129.
• The mastermind behind the attacks has been named as Belgian Abdelhamid Abaaoud.
• ​French President Francois Hollande told parliament that the attacks were an "act of war", and said France was committed to "destroying" Islamic State (IS).

Brief descriptions and tributes of the victims are being posted, alongside photographs.

It makes for heartbreaking reading.

Here's a snippet of good news from all the horror unfolding in Paris.

Remember the pregnant woman who was filmed begging for help as she clung to a window ledge at the Bataclan concert hall?

The woman's friend has told The Daily Telegraph in London that she and her unborn child are "safe and sound".

"She needs to rest and doesn't want to say anything else about what happened for now," he told the newspaper.

He said his friend was saved by "a series of small gestures, small kindnesses, and at that time of total madness, those tiny gestures accomplished great things".

Footage of the woman's ordeal became symbolic of the horror of the French attacks.

As the world mourns the senseless loss of innocent lives the Paris terror attacks, the mood has quickly shifted from shock and sadness at the tragic events to one of understandable anger and indignation, writes Rob Moran.

And while French fighter jets have already started dropping bombs on Islamic State strongholds in Syria, late night host John Oliver dropped a few cathartic bombs of his own on his show - namely, F ones.

"After the many necessary and appropriate moments of silence, I'd like to offer you a moment of premium cable profanity," the host - whose show airs on the curse-friendly network HBO - began, before epically unloading on the "unconscionable f---ing a--eholes" responsible for the attacks.

French officials insist that the Paris climate summit will proceed as planned, with thousands of leaders delegates from almost 200 nations due to arrive in the city from the end of November.

The official gathering was expected to be accompanied by large and perhaps rowdy public protests in Paris. Organisers of the Global Climate March, which had expected to draw as many as 200,000 people on November 29, are reported to be rethinking their plans, according to Reuters.

France's Prime Minister Manuel Valls, though, told RTL France that "sideline" events would be restricted for security reasons.

"Nothing should be done that could endanger, including by crowd movements, the people who come to Paris. If we organise this big event, security forces must concentrate on what is essential," Valls said, according to CNBC.

While the longer-term challenges of climate change have lately taken a backseat to the immediate threats from terrorism, global warming continues apace.

Data released overnight by Japan Meteorological Agency showed that last month was easily the hottest October globally in records dating back to 1891. The big El Nino event in the Pacific is building on the background climate change, scientists say.

Mohamed Abdeslam was freed from police custody overnight, after he was cleared of any involvement in the Paris terrorist attacks.

Upon his release he spoke about his two brothers, who are believed to have been members of the terror group that launched Friday night's attacks.

"My two brothers are normal and I have never noticed anything strange," he told reporters, after being released from custody in Brussels.

One brother, 26-year-old Salah, is Europe's most wanted man after becoming the subject of an international arrest warrant. Police believe he rented a Belgian-registered VW Polo that was parked outside the Bataclan concert hall where 89 people died.

The second brother, Ibrahim, detonated his suicide vest outside the Comptoir Voltaire cafe on Friday night, but only killed himself.

Following his release, Mohamed said: "I was accused of committing an act of terrorism... but I have not in the slightest way been connected to the operation in Paris.

"I have worked for the local council for 10 years and I've never had a problem with anyone... my parents are completely shocked by the tragedy."

Australian Kieren Kresevic was among the hundreds of students who were evacuated from Harvard University in the US on Monday, local time, due to a bomb threat.

The freshman was sitting in an economics lecture when he was told to leave immediately.

"I can hear the whirring of helicopter blades from my dorm room," Mr Kresevic has written in an opinion piece for Fairfax Media.

"As a Sydneysider who moved here for college barely three months ago, I have been confronted with the risk of violence.

"It should never be a part of ordinary life. Even as an anomaly, it has no right to existence in any society. We are so blessed in Australia to enjoy a sense of peace and security. Moving forward, how we react to such events shall determine whether that continues into our future."

A number of buildings at the prestigious Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts were evacuated on Monday afternoon, local time, due to a bomb threat.

In a statement, the university said: "In the wake of recent tragic events in locations ranging from Paris to Beirut and beyond, we understand that this type of threat will cause great anxiety for many across our campuses."

"We will continue to be vigilant as we carry on Harvard's mission of expanding and disseminating knowledge."

Harvard has said that nothing was found to substantiate the bomb threat, and buildings were reopened.

Billionaire US presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would consider shutting US mosques with radical ties following the terrorist attacks in Paris.

"I would hate to do it, but it's something that you're going to have to strongly consider because some of the ideas and some of the hatred, the absolute hatred, is coming from these areas," he told MSNBC's Morning Joe.

Asked what should be done to protect US citizens, Trump said: "You're going to have to watch and study the mosques because a lot of talk is going on at the mosques.

"From what I heard, in the old days, meaning a while ago, we had great surveillance going on in and around mosques in New York City and I understand our mayor totally cut that out."

France is also considering shutting mosques with radical ties following Friday night's attacks.

The UN Security Council has held a minute's silence for the victims of the Paris attacks and other terror victims around the world.

A spokesman for France's mission to the UN said the pause was dedicated to "every victim of terrorism".

Britain's international development secretary, Justine Greening, opened the meeting by expressing "our profound sadness and deep outrage."

She spoke of Paris and also mentioned the suicide bombing in Beirut, where at least 43 people were killed a day before the Paris attacks.
