A tense stand-off at Melbourne's Youth Justice Centre in Parkville has ended after six teenagers agreed to come down from the facility's roof.
The inmates climbed on to the roof, some armed with metal bars, about 2.30pm on Monday.
The centre was put into lockdown, and police and security guards surrounded the building.
The teens were seen smashing skylights and damaging airconditioning units on the roof of the facility.
Heavily armoured riot police entered the compound about 7.30pm and were pelted with materials by the inmates.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Lee Thomson said the incident was "peacefully resolved".
It is understood the teenagers voluntarily surrendered shortly after 9pm.
The Department of Health and Human Services has ordered a review into the incident.
"This review will include an analysis of the events leading up to the incident, and the response to the young people involved," a department spokesman said.
Earlier, the Department of Health and Human Services said members of the Youth Justice Safety Emergency Response Team were at the scene.
"There are no reports of any injuries to staff or young people," the spokesman said. "Our priority is the safety of staff and the young people involved."
Similar scenes unfolded last October, when six people brandishing tennis racquets climbed up onto the roof of the Park Street centre.
