Godolphin set In Secret for another tilt at the Everest

By Chris Roots

Godolphin will run dual group 1 winner In Secret in its Everest slot for the second consecutive year in 2024.

The I Am Invincible filly was a game fourth behind Think About It in the $20 million slot race last year and remains the best sprinter in work for Godolphin.

“She will be running in the Everest for us, provided she holds her form,” trainer James Cummings said.

“Having our own slot means we can change our minds if something was to show it was a better option than In Secret, but at the moment, she is clearly our best option and is our Everest horse.

“That’s why she has gone for a spell after Saturday; so we can get the perfect preparation for Everest.”

In Secret is a $15 chance in Everest betting and joins West Australian filly Bustling, who runs in the Max Whitby slot, as a confirmed runner in the world’s richest sprint at Randwick.

In Secret has consistently shown she is among the top sprinters in the country. She added a third to Imperatriz in the Champions Sprint at Flemington after the Everest in the spring before missing the autumn.

In her only run since, In Secret was beaten 2½ lengths in the Kingsford Smith Cup on Saturday, prompting Cummings and Godolphin racing manager Jason Walsh to spell her.

“We had to think what is best for her Everest hopes and getting to the paddock is the right choice,” Walsh said. “It is [the] one race of the year, where we can use the Emirates silks in Australia and it is important to show them in the best light.

“She has been up with the best sprinters in the country for the past couple of years and she continues to mature and we think she is getting better.

“We will work out what is the best program for her to get the Everest with the advantage of knowing that is her ultimate goal.”

Kingsford Smith Cup winner I Wish I Win remains Everest favourite at $4.50 with trainer Peter Moody keen to secure a slot in the next month. The past two winners – Giga Kick and Think About It – would be at the top of most slot holders’ lists.
