The Lions AFLW side have belted out their club song after beating rivals Adelaide Crows today.

The AFL’s match review has found just one charge from yesterday’s AFL grand final.

Lions star Josh Dunkley has been fined $1250 (early plea) for tripping Hayden McLean in the first quarter.

I don’t think Dunkley will mind too much after winning his second flag yesterday. He was also on the Western Bulldogs premiership team in 2016.

There were only 16 minutes until the trade deadline seven years ago when Charlie Cameron’s wish to leave Adelaide and become a Lion was finally granted.

The Brisbane Lions’ rags-to-riches rise – from perennial strugglers and losing the “go-home five” to this year’s AFL premiers – had an earlier origin, but the Cameron deal was a significant turning point.

The cheeky goalsneak, so well known for his Take Me Home, Country Roads goal celebrations that Lions fans sang it as he left the grand final podium, was the first of a conga line of high-profile recruits who transformed the team into a destination club under Chris Fagan.

A 33-year-old Luke Hodge, with 305 games and four flags’ experience with Hawthorn, arrived in the same trade period charged with providing leadership, cultural and mentoring gains.

“Me and ‘Hodgey’ came at the same time, and it was pretty tough in 2018 because I didn’t get my first win until round nine,” Cameron said after the Lions’ grand final win.

“Everyone was like, ‘Why are you going there?’ and I just saw an opportunity to make myself a better player, be closer to family, and be part of something.”

In an AFLW epic between two powerhouses, two late goals from Dakota Davidson and Taylor Smith in the final 2½ minutes gave Brisbane a slim two-point win over Adelaide this afternoon.

It was a tough and tight battle in a game that felt like a final with plenty of big moments. Anne Hatchard almost took mark of the year, flying high, but couldn’t hang on to the ball.

Smith made a “Big O” for Oscar McInerny after her first goal, as the men’s player, who missed out on a premiership medal through injury, is a ruck coach for the women’s team.

Then there were the numerous smothers, marks and big tackles.

“Congrats to the men’s team. Really hyped us up today,” Smith told Fox post-win.

The Lions have kicked two late goals to snatch the lead in the AFLW.

The team chants are ringing out.

Lions 35, Crows 32 with 74 seconds to go.

The Lions and Crows have one of the great rivalries in the AFLW and, once again, they are going down to the wire.

The Lions have a three-point lead going into the final quarter with a huge crowd building up at Springfield ahead of the arrival of the men’s side following their premiership win in Melbourne on Saturday.

But all focus is on Brisbane’s women as they chase a key win.
