More than 100 trains have been cancelled across south-east Queensland due to a shortage of train drivers, Translink says.

A Queensland Rail spokesperson said there would be service alterations in place across the network, including morning and afternoon peak hour, affecting almost every train line in the city.

Translink was attempting to move passengers onto buses.

Spokesman Simon Cook has told the ABC Translink learned of the shortage of drivers on Thursday afternoon.

Commuters on the Springfield and Redcliffe Peninsula line can also expect possible delays as buses replace trains between Springfield Central and Darra and between Petrie and Kippa-Ring after 7pm.

Normal services were expected to resume for the weekend.
