Former Stafford LNP candidate Bob Andersen in bid for Brisbane City Council seat
By Cameron Atfield
Twice-failed Stafford state candidate Bob Andersen has given politics another go and challenged a sitting councillor for LNP preselection in the north Brisbane council ward of McDowall.
Mr Andersen, a psychologist, will square off against Norm Wyndham to contest the ward at the March 19 council election.
Cr Wyndham has served in the ward since 2004 and was briefly a member of former lord mayor Campbell Newman's civic cabinet before health concerns prevented him taking on the extra workload.
Mr Andersen's poor performance in last year's Stafford byelection, brought on by the retirement of former LNP member Chris Davis, saw a massive swing of 18.6 per cent towards Labor.
That loss saw maxillofacial surgeon and current State Development Minister Anthony Lynham enter the Queensland Parliament.
The LNP endorsed Mr Andersen again for the January's general election, but he was again convincingly beaten, with Dr Lynham winning 59.6 per cent of the vote on a two-party preferred basis.
On the day of the Stafford byelection, the LNP was ordered to cover up signs that claimed Dr Lynham did not live in the electorate.
LNP rules dictate preselection candidates were unable to comment in the media about the contests.
Party members will decide between Cr Wyndham and Mr Andersen when they meet in the ward on Sunday, September 27.
