Twelve of the best homes for sale in NSW right now

By Pauline Morrissey and Lou Sweeney

Whether you’re in the market for a rare, grand country estate, a fine inner-city terrace or a beautifully transformed mountain escape, we’ve scoured the listings to find the state’s best properties on the market.

22 Maddison Street, Redfern NSW

High, wide and handsome – it’s just the way those fine old terraces roll. While this one at 22 Maddison Street, Redfern, might boast all that classic old-school cred, its top-to-toe renovation has also created a cool, contemporary, inner-city sanctuary.

Ray White’s Charles Touma says the renovation is timeless. It’s retained and enhanced plenty of the period pearls, but it also has enough cutting-edge kit to be going on with.

“It’s got grand proportions and that classic design,” he says. “The finishes, though, are amazing. The fitout is very high-end.”

Beyond that generous street frontage, formal living and dining rooms offer lovely, lofty ornate ceilings. Behind here, the kitchen is a knock-out, its marble surfaces, parquetry floors and elegant cabinetry an especially stylish combination.

Stacker doors push back onto a deck that opens up to create a wider al fresco space in front of the garage and home office. Upstairs are three bedrooms. The north-facing main has a smooth en suite, ample cabinetry and a cracking sunroom. An attic level has another bedroom and a natty marble en suite.

The location is pretty handy, too. It’s walking distance from Surry Hills society, and Moore Park is just across South Dowling Street.

The March 8 auction has a guide of $4.52 million.

40 Sir Thomas Mitchell Road, Bondi Beach NSW

Tucked behind a sunlit, sandstone-walled garden, this grand two-storey home embodies beachside elegance with a rich sense of history. “High ornate ceilings and bay windows showcase its period charm, while tasteful renovations enhance its livability,” the agent says. “Its award-winning garden, designed by Bondi Landscapes, is a true retreat. Crepe myrtle blooms bring colour and delight, set against the striking stone wall backdrop.”

11 Walker Street, Lavender Bay NSW

In a quiet, tree-lined street, this grand Victorian terrace commands attention, showcasing a magnificent presence inside and out. “With three levels of beautifully preserved period detail complemented by contemporary updates, the home is a masterclass in timeless design,” the agent says. “Two generous outdoor entertaining terraces and balconies frame uninterrupted Harbour Bridge views – an unbeatable setting for New Year’s Eve celebrations.”

24 Annandale Street, Annandale NSW

Reimagined by some of Australia’s most influential designers, this free-standing Victorian home is an inspired fusion of heritage and modernity. “A stately seven-metre frontage and manicured forecourt set the tone for this three-storey residence, which features a custom chef’s kitchen with a sleek four-metre breakfast island,” the agent says. “Thoughtful design continues outdoors, with ModWood decks and a private landscaped courtyard.”

109 Victoria Street, Potts Point NSW

Designed with Briony Fitzgerald’s signature interior design touch, this grand Victorian terrace invites admiration for its beautiful blend of past and present. “The ground floor boasts two cheerful bedrooms, while a bespoke-carpeted staircase leads to a generous living area that flows onto a balcony,” the agent says. “Crowning the home, the master suite features a walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious marble bathroom with a full-sized bath.”

24 Hartley Street, Rozelle NSW

Every detail of this architect-redesigned home speaks to its thoughtful transformation, from the industrial-chic steel kitchen to the suntrap living and dining space with clerestory windows and glass concertina doors. “Remodelled by Good Manors, the backyard and pool enhance the home’s connection to the outdoors,” the agent says. “Across three levels, there’s plenty to discover, including the upper floor’s views of the CBD skyline.”

14/8 Onslow Ave, Elizabeth Bay NSW

Perched within the boutique Huntingdon building mere moments from the harbour foreshore, this art deco gem offers big lifestyle appeal. “Given its north-east aspect, breathtaking views over boat-filled Elizabeth Bay and Sydney Harbour unfold from the living-dining area, sunlit balcony, and king-sized main bedroom,” the agent says. “High ceilings, a decorative fireplace, and a galley-style kitchen with a curved feature highlight its period details.”

270 O’Briens Road, Cattai NSW

In the historic riverside suburb of Cattai lies an extraordinary 10-hectare estate boasting over a kilometre of private Hawkesbury River frontage. “This secluded retreat features landscaped terraces, a sandy beach, a private boat ramp, and a registered mooring,” the agent says. “A beautifully renovated four-bedroom homestead, a private three-bedroom second dwelling, and a barn-style steel shed complete this rare offering.”

281 Keppel Street, Bathurst NSW

A landmark of heritage and refinement, Blair Athol is a testament to timeless grandeur. “This treasured mansion has been masterfully restored, with its regal past mirrored in its modern luxury,” the agent says. “From opulent chandelier-lit living spaces to bay-windowed bedrooms, every detail reflects its historic charm. Outside, manicured gardens, checkered pathways and stately fountains add to the allure.”

5A Holly Road, Burradoo NSW

Down a stately tree-lined drive reminiscent of a grand country estate lies this rare Highlands retreat where history and potential coexist. “Two original 1930s buildings have been transformed into elegant homesteads featuring sunlit living areas, rustic interiors and covered verandahs,” the agent says. “With concept plans for a four-bedroom pavilion-style home, this estate can embrace its past and cast a vision for an exciting future.”

21 Cambewarra Lookout Road, Beaumont NSW

Suspended between sky and land, this striking home captures the essence of elevated living, with views of escarpments, rolling hills and distant, shimmering waters. “Walls of glass sliding doors completely open the home to its surroundings, making the most of those incredible 360-degree views,” the agent says. “Each of the three private bedroom pavilions has its own en suite, ensuring comfort is as spectacular as the setting.”

39 Abbey Street, Leura NSW

With a mid-century silhouette reimagined through a modern lens, this enchanting Leura home evokes the spirit of mountain living. “Once a humble 1950s fibro cottage, it has been beautifully transformed, with natural light spilling through refined interiors,” the agent says. “Tucked away in the garden, a hidden studio has been stylishly converted into a peaceful retreat – ideal for remote work, art or quiet reflection.”
