The head-turning properties that Aussies loved the most in 2024

By Emily Power and Orana Durney-Benson

Australians love stickybeaking at real estate, and not even necessarily the good-looking kind.

Aussies were interested in this zombie mansion more than any other property in 2024 – it is the most-viewed listing of the year on Domain.com.au.

650 Woori Yallock Road, Cockatoo VIC

The Cockatoo eyesore is a real head-turner and had the nation’s most popular ad on Domain, outlined in the Domain End of Year Wrap.

And for anyone enamoured by the possibility of what the graffiti-addled estate could become, it is still on the market, with price hopes of $900,000 to $990,000.

These are the most-viewed listings by capital city for 2024 on Domain …

Sydney

69 Wolseley Road, Point Piper NSW

The lawn rolls down to Sydney Harbour, and a postcard view at this property for sale on the nation’s most expensive street, Wolseley Road, where the median house price is $45 million. It belongs in its location, with fine details including a “junior suite” with a private entry and a poolside terrace, and it’s still on the market with price hopes of $65 million.

Brisbane

14 Haylock Street, Wynnum QLD

The brand-new home was ruined by its previous occupants, but that has not daunted house hunters.

The postcode of Wynnum – a high-capital growth area – is pretty, even if the home has its pockmarks.

Canberra

9 Dampier Crescent, Forrest ACT

The heated indoor pool is only one of the standout features of this modern family-sized home.

A self-contained study is included – ideal for an au pair, teenage retreat or work-from-home set-up, the listing says.

Adelaide

5 Vickers Avenue, Hendon SA

This home belonged to AFL star Jeremy Finlayson and his wife Kellie, who sold up as Kellie continued her cancer fight.

The couple traded in the keys in November. Kellie’s health and the need to be closer to where she is receiving treatment compelled them to part with the restored character property.

Perth

148 Palmerston Street, Perth WA

The heritage-listed property, built in 1898, is locally known as the “Witch’s Hat” thanks to its distinctive pointed turret.

In its heyday, tennis parties were held at the Witch’s House “with the spectators reportedly sitting in a ‘garden-kiosk’ and being served refreshing drinks by a maid”, the state’s Heritage Council reports.

Hobart

12 Stoke Street, New Town TAS

Stoke House has oodles of heritage, billed as one of the largest and grandest mansions on the island.

It was built to host high society in 1887, as the home of Lieutenant Governor of Tasmania Sir John Dodd.

Darwin

5 Shrike Lane, Humpty Doo NT

A resort-style saltwater pool graces this ranch-inspired rural property, which was built in 1986.

Enjoy complete privacy with only one neighbour, yet be within minutes of shopping, schools and medical facilities.
