‘Wasn’t a random attack’: Men on the run after suburban shooting

By William Davis

Up to five men are on the run after an overnight home invasion in Nundah that police believe was a targeted attack.

A man and woman were taken to hospital after reports of an altercation at a home in Florence Street that culminated in gunshots.

Detective Inspector John Mison said three to five men, described as having dark complexions, had gone to the house but fled after the shooting.

“It doesn’t appear to be a random attack,” Mison told reporters at Hendra Police Station on Thursday afternoon.

“It appears by their actions the group was going there for a reason.”

The victims had reportedly moved into the suburban home this month.

Police believe the attackers went to the Nundah house for reasons that are still under investigation.

Mison confirmed the injured man was known to police, but would not be drawn on any crime links.

“We don’t rule in or out any possible motive,” he said.

“The investigation is a priority … we treat gun violence very seriously.”

Police believe a confrontation took place inside the property, with a resident wielding a samurai sword against the attackers. They left the house and shots were fired outside.

The injured man suffered a shotgun blast to the leg, while the injured woman had shrapnel wounds.

Detectives were interviewing the victims in hospital, speaking to neighbours and collecting CCTV vision.

“If you’ve got any information … contact police, do not approach these persons,” Mison said.

“No piece of information is not relevant.”
