A man has been arrested after allegedly destroying a speed camera in Mosman Park on Wednesday night.
The camera was set up on Stirling Highway near Boundary Road when it clocked a Ford Focus driving at speed, triggering the camera to flash.
Police allege the driver of the vehicle turned around and drove back to where the camera was located, picked it up and smashed it into a tree several times.
"The camera broke sending components and debris onto the road surface," police said in a statement.
"The camera's lenses and finely calibrated speed measuring apparatus were destroyed rendering the camera inoperable."
Police estimated the damage at approximately $70,000.
A man was arrested at 10.45pm that evening at his Mosman Park home and has been charged with criminal damage or destruction of property.
He is due to face Fremantle Magistrates Court on December 7.
