Multibillion-dollar Burswood project wins approval for twin-tower plan
By Emma Young
Authorities have approved a $150 million two-tower development on the Burswood peninsula, part of Golden Sedayu’s $3.8 billion Belmont Park Racecourse transformation.
With 200 apartments across a 26-storey and an 18-storey tower, plus shops and a restaurant, the joint development assessment panel deemed the design in keeping with a vision for the area to be a major tourism and entertainment destination.
Golden Group’s complete Burswood Point plan is years in the making and includes 4500 homes, 90,000 square metres of office and retail space and 110,000 square metres of public open space – more than Langley Park offers – on the 38-hectare site, which incorporates more than 2.5 kilometres of Swan River foreshore.
Approvals have previously been secured for the precinct plan and for construction of 74 luxury riverside homes.
This is the first tower development to be approved. Most of the apartments will be two-bedroom with some one and three-bedroom apartments also available as well as five penthouses. Ten apartments (eight one-bedroom and two two-bedroom) will be provided as affordable housing as per state requirements.
The project is aiming to achieve a five-Green Star rating and the apartments will have solar power, a communal garden, bike storage and repair facilities, a playground, gym and pool.
Golden Sedayu managing director Andrew Sugiaputra said the approval was a testament to the proactive approach of his team in engaging with authorities through the design and development process.
“I extend my appreciation to our dedicated team members, alongside the commendable contributions of both Town of Victoria Park officers and its design review panel,” he said.
“All stakeholders have been actively collaborating to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved across the site for both prospective residents and the wider Perth community.”
Sugiaputra has previously called the project one of the largest urban development projects ever undertaken in Australia, and the most ambitious mixed-use redevelopment under way in Perth.
He has estimated it will pour $10 billion into the state’s economy and generate 25,700 West Australian jobs over the next decade.
Golden Sedayu has already completed $80 million in site works including access roads, water-works and sewer pump station, bulk earthworks and a new bridge connecting Victoria Park Drive into Burswood Point.
The first homes and apartments will go on sale early in 2024.
