Body found after major blaze in warehouse

By Melissa Meehan

A body has been recovered after a large warehouse fire in Perth’s southern suburbs.–

The fire started at the marine engineering warehouse in O’Connor just after 3.30pm on Saturday.

The fire quickly took hold of the facility, used as a boat repair facility, sending toxic smoke into nearby areas.

Nearby residents were told to stay inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed.

Once the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found inside the building.

Arson detectives and firefighters remained at the scene on Sunday to investigate the cause of the blaze.

“The fire is being treated as a non-suspicious fatal incident,” West Australian Police said in a statement.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
