The four occupants in the second vehicle – a man who was driving, a woman, a young boy and a baby boy – were all taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash on O’Shea Road in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs.

The young child and baby are both in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital. The man and woman are in a stable condition at The Alfred hospital.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were investigating the cause of the Berwick collision and that a report would be prepared for the coroner.

In a separate collision on Saturday, a woman died when the vehicle she was driving hit a tree just before 4.30pm on Mount Zero Road in Halls Gap, about 250 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

A boy who was a passenger in the car received non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to hospital.
