Homicide squad detectives are still investigating the shooting, which occurred at a liquor store in Park Orchards on Sunday night.

Police said they saw the 48-year-old man pointing a sawn-off shotgun at the bottle shop owner before he was shot.

The senior constable involved is understood to have been a member of the armed crime squad. He is believed to have fired at least four times.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said on Tuesday the officer was not injured and was receiving departmental support after the shooting.

The owner of the Park Orchards store, Xueqiang "Sean" Wang, said after the incident he was "a lucky man".

"I thank Victoria Police," he said. "I so thank them."

The two men were remanded at Melbourne Magistrate's Court on April 23.
