A man was treated for burns after fire gutted a suburban home in Melbourne's north overnight.
Firefighters were called to the Emma Court property in Thomastown about 11.15am on Saturday after receiving reports of explosions.
Surrounding homes were also threatened by flames due to the ferocity of the blaze, an MFB spokeswoman said.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus commenced an aggressive interior attack, while other
crews searched the home for occupants," she said.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics treated a man in his 30s at the scene for burns to his back.
Neighbours told firefighters that a woman and child were possibly inside the house, but it was later established the pair were not home when the fire started.
It took firefighters less than an hour to contain the blaze. The cause is still unknown.
The MFB remained on scene overnight to completely extinguish the fire. Specialist fire investigators were expected to investigate on Saturday.
