Jailed for woman's 'terrifying' ordeal, ice user will be out by August

By Rick Goodman

A man has been jailed for two years for locking a woman in a room and repeatedly assaulting her, until she managed to escape after six days.

But taking into account time already served in custody, he is likely to be released from jail in about 100 days.

Steven Guy imprisoned the victim at his Lilydale home in February 2016 after taking the drug "ice" and used scissors and knives to hold the door closed.

The 37-year-old punched and kicked her and poured urine over her head, only allowing her out of the room to use the toilet.

Guy was having psychotic delusions throughout, stemming from undiagnosed schizophrenia.

The woman eventually escaped the torturous ordeal on the sixth day while Guy was in the shower.

She fled to her sister's home and doctors later found cuts, bruises, grazes and scabs all over her body.

"It is clear she underwent a terrifying ordeal during the six days you held her prisoner," County Court Judge Barbara Cotterell told Guy as she jailed him on Friday.

Judge Cotterell said Guy was suffering from psychotic delusions at the time and had in the past believed police had installed a camera in his eye.

"Your abuse and assaults appear to be a result of your psychotic state," she said.

His condition has improved during his time in custody, the judge said, having been on medication and free from illicit drugs.

The woman became withdrawn for a time after the attack but has shown strength by becoming a mentor to other victims.

"Her victim impact statement reveals a certain resilience," Judge Cotterell said.

"She was eventually able to change others' lives by retelling the experiences she's had."

Guy will be subject to strict supervision and medical treatment upon his release and must complete 50 hours of community work.
