Schools across the state are celebrating VCE students’ exceptional achievements, as ATAR results are tallied and Victoria’s biggest schools laud some of their best results.
Brighton Grammar School praised the success of its year 12 cohort, including duxes Christopher Chhour and Leonard Shen, who attained a perfect ATAR of 99.95.
The school recorded 5.1 per cent of students gaining an ATAR of 99 and above, while 28.5 per cent scored 95 and above.
More than half the cohort received an ATAR of 90 and above, and the median ATAR score was 90.40.
Headmaster Ross Featherston said the school’s focus on academic engagement, high standards and student wellbeing had led to its best VCE results.
Camberwell Grammar School students achieved the school’s equal best result.
It was a similar story at Camberwell Grammar School on Thursday, as its year 12 cohort achieved the school’s equal best score on record.
Sharing the coveted dux, Jerry Jin, Chris Lu and Joel Cheok achieved 99.95. High-achiever Ethan Ong came in with a 99.85.
Headmaster Paul Hicks said they were all exceptional students who had worked very hard.
“After all the stresses and uncertainty about the delivery of this year’s VCE examinations ... I am very pleased to congratulate our class of ’24 for their outstanding VCE results this year – equal to the best in our history,” Hicks said.
Prahran High School had its first cohort of year 12 students graduate, and awarded its inaugural dux to Sam Lawson, who achieved an ATAR of 97.05.
Sixteen per cent of the VCE cohort to graduate achieved ATAR marks of 90 and above. One in three attained scores over 80.

The Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority data of top-ranking schools is embargoed until Saturday. The Age will publish a comprehensive list of high-achievers then.
The delay did not stop schools from celebrating their achievements, including Mount Scopus Memorial College.
Mount Scopus’ entire graduating class undertook a scored VCE, and 29.6 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above.
College duxes Jake Golshevsky and Jeremy Borsky achieved ATARs of 99.90.
Principal Dan Sztrajt congratulated the cohort of “active and caring students” for their VCE results.
“We are incredibly proud of their achievements, and thank their teachers for their tireless support and encouragement,” he said.

Ten students from Scotch College scored top ATAR results, and have been awarded the duxes of the school.
More than half of the cohort obtained an ATAR of 90 or more, and one in three students scored an ATAR of 95 or more.
The median ATAR result was 90.4, and there were 16 “perfect” scores of 50 across 12 VCE subjects.
Principal Scott Marsh said the results were a testament to the character of the Scotch College students.
“Your hard work, perseverance and discipline have clearly served you well,” he said. “The Scotch family are proud of your efforts and most importantly, who you are as young men.”
Twenty-five Camberwell Grammar students achieved an ATAR of 99 or higher, placing them in the top 1 per cent of the state.
Thirty-five per cent of students achieved a rank of 95 or higher, while 54 per cent achieved a score of 90 or higher.
Camberwell Grammar’s median ATAR score was 90.85, and its average ATAR score was 85.4.

The Ballarat Clarendon College class of 2024 has achieved some impressive ATAR results, including dux Micah Hickingbotham with 99.75.
Ninety students – more than half the cohort – achieved above 90, which places them in the top 10 per cent of the state.
Of its 174 year-12 students, 74 per cent achieved an ATAR above 80, placing them in the top 20 per cent of Victorian students.
The median ATAR score – that is, Clarendon’s middle student in the cohort – achieved 91.2.
Clarendon’s median study score is 37, and the percentage of study scores above 40 is 35 per cent.
Ballarat Clarendon has topped the list of high-achieving schools for the past two years.
Deputy principal Greg Ashman said the results affirmed that their approach was effective.
“They are a testament to the fact that regional students can and do achieve excellence,” he said.

Six Haileybury students received the highest possible ATAR of 99.95, and there were 33 perfect study scores of 50.
Thirty-seven per cent of students attained an ATAR of 95 or more, placing them in the top 5 per cent of students.
More than half of students attained an ATAR of 90 or more, putting them in the top 10 per cent of year 12s.
The Haileybury Girls College cohort were also high performers. Thirty per cent achieved study scores of 40 or above.
Haileybury principal Derek Scott congratulated the year 12 cohort on their hard work and dedication to their studies.
“This has been another year of exceptional academic performance, and these results open up a wealth of opportunities for these deserving students post-Haileybury,” Scott said.

At Albert Park College, more students achieved an ATAR above 90 than in any previous year.
About 20 per cent of students scored over 90, and the median study score was 31. Cumulatively, students achieved 196 study scores of 40 or higher.
Principal Steven Cook said it was a “truly heroic effort from our wonderful young people”.
“The future is in good hands,” he said.
At Al-Taqwa College, a co-ed Islamic school in Truganina, the three highest ATARs were achieved by young women.
Dux Daania Syed Ibrahim achieved an ATAR of 98.5, Ayaan Duale attained 94.15, and Nurein Syeda scored 93.85.
Six of the 48 students achieved an ATAR of 90 or higher, an increase of 5 per cent on last year’s results.
