Two pedestrians critical after horror start to new year on SEQ roads

By Toby Crockford

Two pedestrians are fighting for life in hospital after they were hit by vehicles on south-east Queensland roads just hours into the new year.

In the earlier incident, a 22-year-old man was standing on Old Greenbank Road in the Logan suburb of Greenbank about 3am and one vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic to try to avoid him.

The vehicle could not avoid the man and hit him before also crashing into another oncoming vehicle on the opposite side of the road. The collision between the two vehicles was only minor.

The pedestrian was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition and both drivers were uninjured.

In a separate incident, a male pedestrian was hit by a Volkswagen Tiguan on Central Street in the Gold Coast suburb of Labrador about 4am.

The man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating both incidents.
