A toddler who was rushed to hospital fighting for life after a near-drowning on the Gold Coast on Christmas Eve, has died in hospital.

Emergency services were notified just before 9am on Friday that the patient had been pulled from the water off Marine Parade in Labrador.

Specialist critical care and high-acuity response unit paramedics treated the toddler at the scene before rushing them to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said the three-year-old boy died at hospital and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

In a separate incident on Friday, an adult male was found unconscious in the ocean off Alexandra Parade in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast about 7.30am.

Paramedics had already been called by a member of the public and lifesavers met them on the road and drove them across the beach to the patient in their all-terrain vehicle.

Critical care paramedics treated him on the sand before he was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. The man’s age remains unconfirmed.
