Tatts to build national headquarters at $100 million Newstead site
By Kristian Silva
Tatts Group will set up its national headquarters in Newstead in a $100 million development that will be supported by the Brisbane City Council.
The 17-storey tower will be built at 11 Breakfast Creek Road, with construction expected to begin next year and the tower to be complete by late 2018.
It will feature space for a restaurant or cafe, a TAB, a bottom-floor lotto outlet, 188 car spaces and 115 bike spaces.
The development application was approved by the council's Neighbourhood Planning and Development Assessment committee on Tuesday morning.
Given the LNP majority in council, it is all but guaranteed to be passed by the full council next week.
Committee chair Amanda Cooper described the development as a "landmark" and an "iconic site".
"The building is designed to minimise environmental impacts, and the applicant is aiming to achieve a 5-star 'Green Star' rating by implementing water-saving technologies, air quality systems, sufficient access to daylight and amenities for cyclists," she said.
Fairfax Media reported last year that Tatts paid $8 million for the site, formerly owned by construction company Watpac.
In 2012 Tatts announced it was moving its national headquarters from Melbourne to Brisbane.
