Security guard hit with skateboard 12 times after mirror was smashed
A Gold Coast security guard was hit with a skateboard a dozen times on the head, back and arms overnight in an "unprovoked attack", according to police.
It will be alleged a 37-year-old man was walking along the Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh Heads when he used a skateboard he was carrying to smash the side mirror of a passing hatchback.
The driver, a 38-year-old male security guard, pulled over and went to confront the man about the damage when the skateboard-wielding attacker allegedly bashed him repeatedly with the board.
Emergency services were called when a passer-by intervened and the security guard was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The alleged attacker, a Burleigh Heads man, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage and contravening a police direction.
He was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on February 17.
