Qld police disrupt ‘serious’ meth supply chain after south-east raids

By Tony Moore

Police have smashed an alleged amphetamines drug ring, arresting a Loganholme man and charging him with 15 drug and weapons offences.

Detectives found three handguns, a large quantity of ammunition, $180,000 in cash, and 2.8kg of methylamphetamine with an estimated street value of $246,000 during a string of raids.

Logan’s Tactical Crime Squad raided three Loganholme properties on Thursday after gathering intelligence. They then arrested the 36-year-old on Friday.

Police will allege the man lives at one of the three raided locations.

He was intercepted in traffic by police, arrested, and held in custody after a brief court appearance on Friday.

He will reappear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday morning to face the 15 charges.

The man is accused of three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, three counts of possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence, and one count each of possessing tainted property, possessing utensils or pipes, and offences linked to possessing explosives used in the commission of a crime.

Detective Acting Inspector Nicola Brown said the arrest was a step forward in hampering the alleged distribution of drugs in the south-east.

“Police have disrupted a serious supply chain of methylamphetamine that we know was being distributed across the south-east Queensland area,” Brown said.

The ongoing work highlighted the police commitment to cracking down on unlawful weapons and dangerous drugs, she said.

“We are committed to reducing the amount of dangerous drugs in our community.”
