Premier forgets the name of another local Labor candidate

By William Davis

In awkward scenes on the Sunshine Coast, the Premier has again forgotten the name of a local Labor candidate.

Steven Miles was asked the name of the Labor representative in the seat of Kawana after they did not appear at a Friday campaign announcement in Birtinya.

“That’s a good question,” Miles said, before spending more than 10 seconds quietly shuffling through papers without finding an answer.

“We’ll get that for you, and we’ll be with them later.”

Health Minister Shannon Fentiman and nearby media advisers appeared none the wiser.

Jim Dawson is the Labor candidate for Kawana. The seat is safely held by the LNP’s deputy leader Jarrod Bleijie.

The gaffe came just over a week after Miles forgot the name of Labor’s Mirani candidate, Susan Teder, under similar circumstances.

The Premier was in Birtinya to commit more funding towards the government’s healthcare strategy for women and girls.

Under the plan, an additional $20 million would provide additional sonographers, specialised doctors and improved access to antenatal ultrasound scans.
