By Cameron Atfield

Queensland police shot a man on the Gold Coast on Saturday night, claiming he was armed and threatening when officers were called to a Burleigh Heads home.

A police spokesperson said the man, aged in his 30s, was shot about 7.30pm.

“Police were called to a Gardenia Grove residence following reports of an armed man making threats,” the spokesperson said.

“Upon arrival, the armed man made threats to officers and was subsequently shot by police.”

The spokesperson said the man immediately received medical assistance before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries”.

“A crime scene was declared, and police investigations are continuing,” the spokesperson said.

“This matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command, with the investigation subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.”
