Man charged with murder after Toowoomba woman’s death
Police have charged a man with murder following the shooting death of a woman in Toowoomba on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was charged following three days of investigations into the death of 27-year-old Kara Jade Weribone in North Toowoomba.
A police spokesperson said the man was arrested in Roma at 11.35am on Saturday and had since been charged with murder with reckless indifference.
Kara Jade Weribone died in a shooting incident at North Toowoomba on Wednesday.
He was expected to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.
“Detectives continue to appeal for information and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam [footage] or been in the vicinity of Christmas Street, West Street or Gladstone Street around the time of the incident,” the police spokesperson said.
Weribone, from the Toowoomba suburb of Wilsonton, died in Toowoomba Hospital on Wednesday after allegedly being shot about 2pm on Christmas Street, not far from Sacred Heart Primary School. Police found her at the scene with serious injuries.
“It’s extremely alarming, we’re talking about it [happening] early in the afternoon around school pick-up,” Darling Downs District Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collins said after the shooting.
