Man charged with animal cruelty in Brisbane's north after puppy found

Police have charged a man with animal cruelty after finding a stolen puppy at a unit in Brisbane's north during a raid.

Police searched the Stafford unit at 7.45am on Friday where the Maltese-Shih Tzu cross stolen on Sunday was found in the possession of two men.

Officers also found drugs at the address.

Two puppies, that were three-weeks-old at the time, were taken from Mitchelton.

However, one was found on Wednesday after a member of the public spotted the newborn in a fish and chip shop.

The second puppy found was also taken to a vet clinic for examination before being returned to its owner on Friday.

A 23-year-old man was charged with burglary and animal cruelty and would appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A 32-year-old man was currently assisting police with inquiries in relation to the drug offences.
