Man charged over alleged drive-by stabbing in Sunshine Coast street
A man will face court on Monday accused of stabbing three pedestrians in a Sunshine Coast street at the weekend over comments made about his driving.
Emergency services were called to Ocean Street in Maroochydore just after 4am on Sunday after reports of a fight between pedestrians and the two occupants of a vehicle.
It will be alleged the confrontation was sparked when one or more of the pedestrians made comments to the car driver about the manner of his driving and the situation escalated from there.
Detectives believe the pedestrians and motorists did not know each other before the confrontation.
Police said during the fight, the driver of the vehicle armed himself with a knife and stabbed three male pedestrians, before fleeing the scene on foot.
The pedestrians, all aged in their 20s, were treated at the scene by specialist critical care paramedics and rushed to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
One patient was in a stable condition with back wounds, another was stabbed in the chest and back, and he was serious but stable. The third was serious but stable with chest and abdomen wounds.
Police said the car driver was found about 5.30am on Sunday and taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment of facial injuries sustained in the brawl.
The 23-year-old Buderim man was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, going armed to cause fear and entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He was held in custody and was expected to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.
The alleged car passenger, a 20-year-old Nambour woman, was charged with serious assault police causing bodily harm, after allegedly verbally abusing and physically assaulting a female officer.
She received police bail and was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court November 5.
