Man charged after a tourist stabbed on Sunshine Coast
A man has been charged after a tourist was allegedly stabbed when a fight broke out on the Sunshine Coast.
Police said the victim, a 29-year-old Cairns man, was with four people when he left a licensed premises on Brisbane Road at Mooloolaba between 12.30am and 1am on Wednesday.
They were walking towards Venning Street when they were approached by two men from an earlier confrontation.
A fight broke out and the 29-year-old allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and back.
The two men then fled and the victim was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
A 19-year-old Maroochydore man was later arrested and charged with one count of wounding, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence.
He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Investigations are continuing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to police - in particular, a man who may have stopped and filmed the disturbance on his phone.
