The blaze ripped through and destroyed one of the homes about 2pm, before engulfing three more neighbouring properties.

Firefighters had the blaze under control just before 5pm, with three homes destroyed and a fourth with extensive damage.

Investigators were yet to formally determine the cause of the blaze, but there were reports the fire had started after a fuel spill. The fire was not believed to have started in suspicious circumstances.

Paramedics transported a man, who had significant burns to his legs, hands and face, to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. A second person was taken to hospital in a stable condition with superficial burns.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said just before 4pm that a third patient was also being assessed on scene. They were later taken to hospital with chest pain.

“Multiple Queensland Fire and Rescue crews are on scene at a fire that is affecting several properties on Evelyn St, Grange,” the QFD said in an alert.

“Crews were called to the blaze around 2.10pm and firefighters are currently working to defend properties and extinguish the fire. All occupants are reported to be out of the buildings.

“A large amount of smoke is affecting the area. Nearby residents should close windows and doors and keep respiratory medications close by if required.”

Fire investigators remained on scene on Saturday evening to work to determine the cause of the blaze.
