A man who allegedly killed a NSW paramedic at a Sydney McDonald’s earlier this year has been hit with a slew of new charges over an alleged “mini rampage” ahead of the stabbing.
Jordan Fineanganofo, 22, faced Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday over the new charges after police found he allegedly assaulted and stole from people not known to him ahead of the attack.
The attacks allegedly occurred on April 13 and 14 across Blair Athol, Ingleburn and Raby in Sydney’s south-west.
Fineanganofo was originally charged with the murder in April after allegedly stabbing 29-year-old paramedic Steven Tougher, who was grabbing some food on a night shift with his colleague at Campbelltown McDonald’s about 5.30am on April 14.
Tougher’s colleague pressed the duress alarm during the alleged attack, alerting emergency services.
Tougher was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in an ambulance but later died.
Fineanganofo was officially handed the additional charges on July 27 at Macquarie Fields police station while in custody.
He was charged with common assault, destroying or damaging property, being armed with intent, two counts of attempted wounding with intent, and stealing. He was originally refused bail on the murder charge and remains behind bars.
Tougher – a father whose family have given permission to identify him and publish his image – had been in the job for only about a year and had married his wife, Madison, five weeks before his death.
Madison was pregnant at the time of Tougher’s death and has since given birth to their baby girl, whom she named Lily-Mae Stevie Tougher.
Tougher’s death sent shockwaves through the NSW Ambulance community and more than $400,000 was raised for his family in just five days.
He was the first paramedic to die after an alleged violent assault during a shift for NSW Ambulance.
Shortly after his son’s death, Tougher’s father Jeff posted a message on Facebook urging his friends and family to support him on his “quest” for stronger legislation.
“People ask me if there’s anything I need. Well, there is. I need your support. I need your voice. I need you to back me in a bid to advocate for stronger laws to protect these people who serve the community with such passion and dedication,” he said.
“Laws like mandatory life sentences for killing anyone in the line of duty. A mandatory prison term for assaulting these people. Perhaps three years. Regardless of circumstance or state of mind.”
