A P-plate driver has been charged over the death of a scooter rider in Sydney's inner west.
The 41-year-old delivery worker was killed after he was allegedly hit while riding the motorised scooter along William Street in Five Dock about 8.45pm.
Bystanders attempted to assist the rider, who was struck near the intersection of Spencer Street by a Toyota Hilux Utility. He died at the scene.
NSW Ambulance Karl Cronan told Nine News the scene was "extremely confronting for all emergency services".
The 19-year-old driver from Kellyville, Matthew Giusa, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing before he was taken to Burwood police station.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving.
Mr Giusa appeared in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday but is yet to enter a plea.
"It was an accident. I wish that upon no one," he told Nine News outside court. "I show great remorse towards that family."
Mr Giusa was granted bail on several conditions including that he comply with a curfew and surrender his passport.
