A 21-year-old man has been charged with numerous driving offences after a carjacking and car crash in the M5 tunnel on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to the M5 tunnel in Arncliffe just before 12.30am following reports of a crash involving a Mazda and Range Rover.
Following the incident, two passers-by in a Honda stopped to help. It's alleged the five men in the Mazda entered the Honda and threatened the driver with a knife, police said.
The Range Rover’s 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital with cuts, bruises and a suspected broken hand.
On Saturday, NSW Ambulance acting Inspector Paul Sweetland said it was "quite amazing" the woman had not suffered more severe injuries.
On Monday, police arrested a 21-year-old man at a property in St Marys.
He was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with numerous charges, including two counts of driving without a license, driving reckless and furiously occasioning aggravated bodily harm, and driving in a reckless, furious, and dangerous manner.
The man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on September 17.
