Long weekend motorists hit with sluggish traffic

Heavy traffic and long queues have plagued roads Sydney roads this Easter long weekend.

Arterial roads and highways were the worst affected areas.

The Princes Highway at Berry in the state's south was clogged as early as 9.00am.

The southbound traffic queue was 1.5 kilometres long in the morning, adding 20 minutes of extra travel time, but grew to a 14 kilometres by 2.00pm, adding an hour to motorists' travel time.

In the Blue Mountains, congestion filled the Western Highway from Lawson to Medlow Bath.

Westbound traffic in Lawson was banked back for eight kilometres just after lunch, delaying travel by 40 minutes but the congestion was easing.

Traffic was also very slow from Leura and Blackheath, causing up to 70 minutes delay in travel.

There was no relief for motorists after leaving Katoomba with more congestion on the way to Medlow Bath causing a queue of 6.5 kilometres at around 3.00 pm.

In the state's north, there was a 7.5 kilometre queue southbound on the Pacific Highway in Ewingsdale, a 3.3 kilometre queue northbound in Macksville and a 6 kilometre queue between Tarro and Hexham on the New England Highway northbound just before lunchtime. All jams eased by late afternoon.

Holidaymakers looking to flu were not spared from road dramas either, finding themselves in traffic jams at Sydney Airport in the morning from 9.00am.

A two kilometre queue at Marsh Street at Arncliffe approaching the International Terminal eased by 10.00am

Motorists looking for a park at the Sydney Royal Easter Show were disappointed with parking all gone by 11.00am.

NSW Transport also advised those planning on going to the NRL match on Friday night between the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium to take public transport.

Those who stayed local around but headed out to the Fish Market were affected by delays in Pyrmont.

Northbound traffic on the Pacific Highway from Gordon to Wahroonga and on the M1 motorway from Wahroonga to Brooklyn was also slow but were all slowly easing.
