An employee of a state government agency has been charged for allegedly sharing private data in connection to the alleged kidnapping of a man in Sydney’s west in March.
At about 5.20am on March 9, police said a group of armed men forced entry to a home on Brenan Street, Smithfield, where they allegedly grabbed a 26-year-old man and bundled him into a car before fleeing.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, assisted by Fairfield City Police Area Command, established Strike Force Kkuoa to investigate the incident.
Five days later, on March 14, tactical police forced entry into a house in Belmore and freed Peter Vuong, 26, who had been allegedly abducted from his own home.
Six men aged between 19 and 21 were arrested and charged for their alleged roles in the incident and remain before the courts.
“[Police] worked tirelessly around the clock for the entire six days in order to achieve our goal of recovering this hostage in a safe condition,” Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi said at the time.
“Firearms were used, sledgehammers were used, the male was tortured. He had his teeth physically removed by these people.”
Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a 21-year-old woman on Roberts Road, Greenacre about 11am on Wednesday.
The woman was taken to Auburn police station and charged with a number of offences including participating in and contributing to criminal activity.
Police will allege the 21-year-old was an employee of a state government agency and accessed personal data which was shared with others for the purpose of criminal activity.
The woman from Yagoona was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
