Boy, 2, critical after being pulled from Sydney public pool
A man has described the terrifying moment he saved a toddler from drowning in a Sydney public swimming pool.
A two-year-old boy was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition after emergency services rushed to Whitlam Leisure Centre in Liverpool.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson confirmed four units arrived at the pool at 1.40pm Sunday and rushed the boy to hospital.
An unnamed man told TNV News he was walking away from the child’s pool area towards the adult pool when he saw what looked like a toddler floating face down in the child’s pool.
“As soon as we walked out, I seen [sic] a baby on the water floating and I [asked my friend] ‘Is it a toy or a baby?’” he said.
“He said ‘a baby’ and [my friend] ran outside to ask the lifeguard for help and I got him out of the water and everyone came around me.”
The man said the baby was unresponsive and had facial injuries.
Footage taken outside the pool by TNV News shows a young woman rushing to an ambulance with a stretcher and breaking down in tears. She was then seen hugging an older woman and being comforted by emergency services.
All visitors to the pool were evacuated once the baby was taken out of the pool.
NSW Police confirmed they attended the incident and established a crime scene.
