Caroline Wilson to join Seven’s broadcast team for 2025 AFL season
By Calum Jaspan
High-profile Nine talent and columnist for The Age Caroline Wilson will join Seven’s AFL coverage in 2025.
A former chief football writer for The Age, Wilson is one of Nine’s most prominent AFL personalities and a permanent panellist on Footy Classified.
Wilson will keep her column at The Age, as well as her regular commitments with Nine-owned radio station 3AW.
She will join former Port Adelaide midfielder and Nine personality Kane Cornes, who confirmed his departure from Nine to Seven in August.
Wilson could not be reached for comment. Nine and Seven declined to comment.
Wilson and Cornes’ arrival at Seven coincides with the start of a new seven-year broadcast rights deal that will allow the network to broadcast games on its digital streaming platform, 7Plus, for the first time.
Seven is expected to formally announce the hiring on Wednesday.
“We have no comment, we don’t comment on speculation,” a Seven spokesman said.
Wilson is contracted to Nine (which owns The Age) until December with a restraint period, said a person with direct knowledge of the discussions but not authorised to speak, meaning Wilson will likely not join Seven’s AFL coverage until mid-2025.
Wilson was honoured at the 68th annual Walkley Awards in 2023 for her outstanding contribution to journalism.
Wilson became only the second female journalist to cover an AFL season when she started in sports journalism in 1981. In 1999, Wilson was appointed The Age’s chief football writer.
She held that role until 2017, but remains at The Age as a regular columnist and as a panellist on the Real Footy podcast.
