The high-visibility police operation codenamed Operation Whiskey Legion has swept through north Brisbane, resulting in 829 arrests.
The 10-day sweep led to 681 adults and 145 juveniles being charged with a total of 2107 offences including armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.
“Our operation saturated areas like shopping centres and public events, boosting the policing presence and enhancing community safety,” District Superintendent Simon Tayler said in a statement.
“We have received positive feedback from the community throughout our operation. One example is a family who recognised police officers who had helped them in a domestic and family violence incident. The son told our officers that his goal was to join the service when he was older.”
The operation, which has been deployed across the state, is a deliberate effort by police to respond to crime concerns and be seen to respond to crime concerns.
