Nominations for the ALP candidacy closed on Friday afternoon, with Price the sole nominee. Her campaign was expected to start on Sunday.

The mother-of-three was expected to pressure the Liberal National Party on issues such as the cost of living, housing and traffic.

She was also likely to promise more bikeways and footpaths, in an effort to ease congestion.

While Labor had been hoping to attract a more experienced candidate, such as former state government minister Kate Jones, it expected Price to do better than former journalist Patrick Condren.

At the 2020 election, the Condren campaign lost ground to Schrinner, who was first elected as a councillor in 2005.

Speculation was rife former Greens councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan would attempt to take the top job in City Hall.

Council elections would be in March.
