Celebrity radio host Jackie “O” Henderson has splashed $13.25 million on a three-storey oceanfront home overlooking Clovelly Beach, in the most expensive auction result in Sydney on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of 80 on Saturday afternoon, three registered bidders battled it out for the six-bedroom, three-bathroom towering oceanfront with scope to update or rebuild.

Bidding opened at $9 million, and parties placed two whopping bids of $500,000. Bidders then placed several $250,000 bids.

When the bidding reached $11.5 million, Henderson had had enough. However, having a change of heart, she stepped back in again at $11.7 million.

Bids slowed to $100,000 increments until the hammer fell at $13.25 million, securing the hotly contested property for the KIIS FM radio star.

The auction ended after 10 minutes, coming in well above the $10 million guide and $12 million reserve. The vendors are ecstatic.

Public records show the sellers are Kierin Deeming and Justine Hall, who paid $6.01 million in 2019.

Selling agent Alexander Phillips of PPD Real Estate is used to dealing with high-profile buyers but said Henderson was noticeably down-to-earth in comparison.

“Most of these people don’t appear at the auction. She didn’t seem to worry about it,” he said.

“People knew it was her, obviously. She is not pretentious in that way. All these celebrities have to sign confidentiality [documents], and then they decide not to come; they have someone else bidding for them. They try and hide, [whereas] she didn’t.”

The unique outlook of the property reminded buyers of being in the Mediterranean, he said.

“It’s a one-off position, such a unique spot. That’s what really drove it. One of the few places along the eastern beaches where you don’t have a road in front of you, you look directly straight onto the waterfront.

“The market has rebounded a little bit this year, and Clovelly is hot at the moment.”

The house was on the market for five weeks, 98 groups went through and 13 contracts were issued.

Jackie O’s most recent residence was in Woollahra, where she paid $11 million for Cooper Park House in 2020.
