AFL trade period deadline day as it happened: Treloar, Cameron traded in frantic final minutes

Collingwood fans will be wondering how their club has ended up jettisoning Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson and Tom Phillips in one of the AFL's most dramatic fire sales.

They will be either perplexed, depressed or angry about the outcome of this post-season, which was a reckoning for decisions that have built up over a period of years.

What should be understood by their understandably flat faithful is that the fire sale did not simply happen in 2020 and if Treloar and Stephenson were the expendables, they themselves were not responsible. It can be likened to a bad debt that accumulated interest and compound interest until it could no longer be carried and had to be repaid, all at once.

In effect, the Magpies have ripped off the Band-Aid of their salary cap issues, and this process involves raw wounds - for Treloar in particular, for Nathan Buckley and for the club's marketing department, which can't sell what has unfolded to an incensed membership base.

• Sydney traded pick 25 for Melbourne's 31 and 43.
• Richmond's Jack Higgins was traded to St Kilda along with pick 21 and a future fourth-rounder. The Tigers got pick 17 and a future second-rounder.
• Ben Brown was traded from North Melbourne to Melbourne. North traded Brown, pick 28 and a future fourth-round pick to Melbourne for 26, 33 and a future fourth-rounder that is currently tied to Brisbane.
• Lion Alex Witherden and pick 86 were traded to the West Coast Eagles in exchange for pick 58 and a future third-round pick.
• Collingwood traded Jaidyn Stephenson, Atu Bosenavulagi and pick 39 to North Melbourne for 26, 33 and 70
• Brisbane traded 18, 19 and a future second-rounder to Melbourne for a future first-rounder, and 25, 68 and 69.
• Essendon traded Orazio Fantasia and pick 73 to Port Adelaide for pick 29 and a future third-round selection
• Collingwood traded Tom Phillips to Hawthorn for pick 65
• Greater Western Sydney traded Jye Caldwell, pick 44 and 74 to Essendon for pick 29 and a future second-round pick
• Collingwood traded Adam Treloar and 26, 33 and 42 to the Western Bulldogs for 14 and a future second-round selection
• Greater Western Sydney traded Jeremy Cameron and two future second-round picks (one tied to Essendon) to Geelong for 13, 15 and 20
• St Kilda traded Nick Hind and pick 77 to Essendon for 67 and 74.

Nick Hind and pick 77 went to Essendon and picks 67 and 74 went to St Kilda.

Here's what the Pies list manager said in the club statement announcing Treloar's move to the Bulldogs:

“For some time we have held the view that this year’s draft represents an excellent opportunity to address some of our needs. We think in the short term we can improve from within but we can also now strengthen the profile of our list for the medium and longer term. This deal improves significantly our ability to do that," Guy said.

“With the draft assets we now have, we also have the ability over the next couple of weeks to explore ways of improving our draft position further.”

Adam Treloar, pick 26, pick 33 and pick 42 went to the Western Bulldogs, with Collingwood receiving pick 14 and a future second round pick in exchange.

Jye Caldwell, pick 44 and 74 go from GWS to Essendon with the Bombers giving back pick 29 and a future second rounder.

Jeremy Cameron and a future second round pick went to Geelong, with GWS getting pick 13, 15 and 20 in return. 

Josh Dunkley did NOT get to Essendon, as was his want.

Nick Hind and pick 77 went to Essendon and picks 67 and 74 went to St Kilda.

Earlier, Tom Phillips was traded to Hawthorn, with Collingwood receiving pick 65.

Jaidyn Stephenson and Atu Bosenavulagi and pick 39 went to North Melbourne, with the Pies recewiving pick 26, 33 and a future fourth-round pick (22 and 33 went to the Bulldogs in the Treloar deal).

Essendon trade Orazio Fantasia and pick 73 to Port Adelaide for pick 29 and a future third round pick.

We're still waiting on the official paperwork being lodged, but here's what we know of the trades that got done tonight.

Jeremy Cameron, Adam Treloar, Jye Caldwell, Tom Phillips and Orazio Fantasia all got traded.

Geelong gave up all three of their first-round picks for Cameron, but get two future first-rounders as well as the key forward in return.

Josh Dunkley stays at the Bulldogs, and Jackson Hately did not get traded and will go through the pre-season draft.

Adam Treloar has been traded to the Bulldogs in exchange for pick 14 and a future second-round pick.

Jye Caldwell has also got his move to Essendon, as requested. Caldwell, pick 44 and 74 go to Essendon for pick 29 and a future second-rounder.

Jackson Hately will go through to the pre-season draft where he can be picked up by Adelaide, who have the first pick.

Josh Dunkley has not been traded.
