Two florists have planted new life into this colourful 1970s home.

“This home is a ’70s split-level that’s confused whether it’s American colonial or Mediterranean Spanish – a perfect canvas,” says Steven Maccora (standing).

The home
A two-storey, five-bedroom 1970s brick home in Melbourne’s south-east.

Who lives here
Steven Maccora and Peter Diamantopoulos, florists and owners of Le Salon Aux Fleurs in Armadale, with their dog Marley and cat Lucia.

What we did
“We painted, changed the flooring and lighting, upgraded the old laundry to a larger scullery, re-purposed the kitchen cupboards, gutted and renovated the upstairs bathroom and planted a garden,” says Maccora.

Our favourite room
“I love the living room as it’s the best place to relax and feel at peace,” says Diamantopoulos, “while Steven loves cooking and creating in the kitchen.”

The ’hood
“Peter and I both grew up in the area and we both loved this house as kids,” says Maccora. “We paddle-board and take Marley for walks at the nearby beach.”

Future plans
“There’s one spare room upstairs we’re yet to decorate, but not a lot else as the garden is now complete,” says Maccora.

Best advice
“Follow your style, not fashion, and collect things you will cherish forever,” says Maccora.
