How would you describe your personal style? Feminine and preppy. I’m not the best at casual dressing – I gravitate towards elevated, tailored pieces. It’s also organised. Mornings with my children are too chaotic and unpredictable to wing it; my outfit is never an afterthought. In my industry, presentation is paramount; you must always put your best foot forward.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? A Chanel tweed skirt suit in blush pink, bought from Rue Cambon boutique in Paris 15 years ago. But it’ll never be old, it’s timeless. I’m sure my daughter will have her eye on it one day.

And the most recent addition? A black Alexander McQueen blazer. I live for blazers; I fantasise about having a blazer blog!

Top of Amy Jean’s current fashion wish list is this Louis Vuitton blazer.

What would you wear …
… on a first date? Straight-from-work attire with a red lip and a heel; it’s obligatory to dust off the stilts, right?
… on a plane? A cashmere tracksuit or Olivia von Halle loungewear.
… on the red carpet? I’d have something made by Nicky Velani or Alex Perry.

What’s your favourite fashion era? I loved the Sex and the City era. Fashion felt playful and creative.

Who are your favourite designers? I love Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren. Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana do the best blazers. And on the local front Rebecca Vallance, Scanlan Theodore and Zimmermann.

What’s your fragrance of choice? Louis Vuitton “Ombre Nomade”. It’s a strong oud scent; it smells of confidence. I buy it for my husband so I can secretly wear it, too.

What are three essential items in your wardrobe? Black high-waisted pants – I like Safiyaa and Alexander McQueen – a tailored, single-breasted blazer and my timeless tan Hermès “Kelly 28″ handbag.

Any go-to jewellery? I wear minimal jewellery while wrangling toddlers; it’s usually just my Audemars Piguet “Royal Oak” watch and Van Cleef & Arpels “Alhambra” earrings and bracelet.

Can you remember a favourite outfit you wore as a child? My mum dressed me in so many fun outfits when I was little, feminine little dresses and skirts. In winter she insisted on opaque tights and a scarf, and I always had cool gumboots and a little handbag which, on reflection, was utterly useless.

What was your first fashion moment? My Alannah Hill days. When I started my business, 18 years ago, I was head-to-toe in her pieces, every day. It was borderline theatrical but so fun and feminine.

And your worst fashion mistake? There’s a cringeworthy photo of me in my 20s wearing a babydoll leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana dress with red piping. My best friend still reminds me of it. Never again.

What’s at the top of your current wish list? It’s always a jacket or a coat. I collect them; I’ve lost count of how many I own. I currently have my eye on the black Louis Vuitton “Preppy Textured Wool” blazer.

Is there a current trend you like? Not really. I appreciate trends, but I prefer timeless pieces that suit my body shape.

Is there anything you’d never wear? A kaftan. Also, ankle-length skirts; they make me feel like a Christmas tree.

What shoes do you wear most often? Aquazzura “Violette” heeled mules in neutral cream – I’m on my third pair. In winter I live in black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots.

Who’s your favourite fashion icon? I admire Kate Middleton’s style but mostly it’s my clients. I’m lucky to have a few super-stylish clients who work in fashion. I look forward to catching up with them for inspiration.

What do you wear on a typical working day? A tailored blazer with a pussy-bow blouse, pants and heels.

What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? Activewear. I love Sports Luxe’s elevated pieces.
