How would you describe your style? Coastal classic. My outfits are quite understated. I’m more confident in my make-up looks, so tend to glam it up in that aspect.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? An embroidered lace top from the ’80s that I bought in Sorrento, Italy.

And the most recent addition? A cute Cancer Council bucket hat I can fold up in my handbag or pack for vacation without getting crushed. Also, a pair of Sass & Bide jeans with sequins on them.

What would you wear … on a first date? A little black dress with a wedge heel … on a plane? A stretch jersey maxi-dress and my Golden Goose sneakers … on the red carpet? I love a form-fitting dress and a sequin for events. I wore a sparkly Rachel Gilbert dress for the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and felt so glamorous.

What’s your favourite fashion era? The ’60s for the emergence of the sex kitten, Brigitte Bardot, the mod look, the fabulous make-up. A winged eyeliner tutorial was my first video to go viral on the internet.

What’s your fragrance of choice? I love a floral scent. I have hundreds but Chloé Eau de Parfum is my signature – I’ve worn it for at least 10 years.

Is there a beauty product you can’t live without? The product I apply every day, multiple times a day, is Cancer Council’s “Hydration Boost” sunscreen.

Who are your favourite designers? I love Aussie labels like Bec + Bridge, Shona Joy and Suboo.

What are the three essential items in your wardrobe? Scoop-neck tees in black, white and grey. Abrand mid-rise jeans – they’re affordable and fit me great. And a pair of cat-eye sunglasses; my mum recently had a melanoma in her eye, so I’m big on protecting my eyes.

Any go-to jewellery? My parents gave me a stunning opal for my 30th birthday that I had set into a ring. It’s massive and has all the colours of the ocean – blue, green, aqua. It reminds me of the beautiful Sapphire Coast [in southern NSW]. It’s very special.

Can you remember a favourite outfit you wore as a child? I had a bunch of my grandma’s old clothes that my mum had cut up and sewed so I could wear them as dress-ups. There was a ’70s fuchsia dress with sparkles that I loved.

What was your first fashion moment? Going to New York Fashion Week with Tresemmé in 2014. I went to all the shows, and backstage. It was huge.

And your worst fashion mistake? Not dressing for my body type. I love the look of baggy clothing, but it doesn’t suit me. I’ve tried to emulate oversized runway looks and ended up looking like I’m wearing a potato sack. A tighter-fitting silhouette is more suitable for me.

What’s on your wish list? A pair of black Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots.

Is there something you would never wear? A bralette.

Is there a current trend you like? I love the mermaid aesthetic: the Cult Gaia collection, pearly jewellery, Amber Sceats’ starfish necklaces, iridescence, ocean iconography, coral. I even love it for my home. The way some people feel about crystals is how I feel about shells.

What do you sleep in? A black lacy pants-and-top duo from Cotton On.

What shoes do you wear the most often? Jo Mercer slides.

Who’s your favourite fashion icon? I love Shakira’s rock-chick style and admire how adventurous she is with colour, print and wearing out-there labels like Versace.

What do you wear on a typical working day? A black ribbed singlet with a black stretchy jersey midi-skirt.

What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? Academy Brand linen pants with a tight white singlet, sunglasses and hydrating sunscreen for that siren mermaid glow.

Chloe Morello is an ambassador for Cancer Council sunscreen.
